If your T-Mobile bill went up and you didn't change anything, look at one line first: the Regulatory Programs & Telco Recovery Fee. On October 12, it went from $4.49 to $5.49 on every phone line.

A dollar per phone. That's the whole change. It's easy to miss because it isn't next to your plan price. It's further down the page, with the taxes and fees most of us skip.

What changed, and when

T-Mobile's bill support page lists the change:

Both took effect October 12, 2026.

What this fee is

The name sounds like something the government charges. It isn't. T-Mobile's page says the fee is not a government tax. It's listed with T-Mobile's fees and charges, and government taxes are listed on their own.

Your plan price didn't move. Your bill did.

Here's the part your bill won't tell you.

If you're on an Experience plan, the 5-Year Price Guarantee covers the price of your talk, text and 5G data. T-Mobile's plan page says taxes and fees aren't included. This fee is one of those fees.

So the plan line can sit exactly where it was while the total climbs underneath it. That's how the guarantee is written. But when you've been told your price is guaranteed, a higher bill is the last thing you expect to open.

Which plans see it

Not every plan bills this fee separately. T-Mobile's page notes that some plans include monthly taxes and fees in the plan price. If you're on one of those, the fee isn't its own charge, and you won't see it move.

If your taxes and fees are listed below your plan charges, that's where you'll find it, and that's where the change shows up.

When you'll see it

It follows your billing cycle. The first bill that covers October 12 or later has the new amount. For some people that was the October bill. For others, it's November's.

What it looks like on a family plan

The fee is charged per line. That's what makes a small number add up.

One phone, it's a dollar. Five phones, it's a dollar five times. A tablet or hotspot on a mobile internet line adds fifty cents. And it's every month, not once.

If one person pays the bill and everyone else pays them back, everyone's share went up a little too. Our free split calculator lets you rerun the shares with the new total.

What to check on your own bill

Put your last two bills side by side.

If the difference is bigger than this fee explains, something else changed too. That's worth finding before you assume it's all the fee.

When you contact T-Mobile, bring:

Bring those and the conversation is about your account. You already know what the fee is.

The plan price held still. The fee underneath it moved.
